The recent trend with Tribal Internal Control Standards is to adopt the NIGC's Minimum Internal Control Standards. While this meets requirements, they are what they say, minimum. Internal Audit
The NIGC's Minimum Internal Control Standards requires that all gaming operations have an Internal Audit Department to conduct periodic reviews of the operation, in most cases this department operates under the Gaming Commission to ensure independence. Many gaming operations lack this very important department due to budgetary or other reasons. One solution may be to outsource the Internal Audit Department to a thorough and knowledgeable accounting firm.
